More on the Barmah Muster

The Barmah Muster Dance Committee has been established for more than 25 years The Dance committee is a not for profit organisation that was established to raise funds and awareness for the preservation of the Barmah Forest. Over many years the committee have donated funds exceeding $30,000.00, to the Barmah Forest Preservation League to assist in building the Barmah Forest Heritage & Education Centre. The Dance Committee have also donated funds to local service and sporting clubs who assist with the Barmah Muster Weekend.

The Barmah Muster Weekend is a significant event in the Moria Shire. The committee pride themselves on maintaining the Muster as an affordable family weekend. In the past five years the dance committee have lifted the entertainment profile of the weekend. The Barmah Muster Country Rock Concert is now a stage for Up & Coming Country entertainers as well as employing local entertainment acts. In recent years the Barmah Muster has staged Steve Forde & the Flange, Shea Fisher and Briana Lee. All of which have gone on to be high quality recording artists.

The Barmah Muster Dance Committee in conjunction with the Cattleman’s Association often host local and interstate riding groups. Volunteers from the committee use their experience and knowledge of the area to show areas of the forest that would otherwise be inaccessible to the inexperienced navigator.

In the year 2000 the Barmah Muster Dance Committee in conjunction with the Barmah Forest Cattleman’s Association & Barmah Forest Preservation League hosted the celebration of 150 years of grazing in the Barmah Forest " “Back to Barmah”. The week was a huge success with in excess of 3000 people attending for the week’s activities. The response from people attending the “Back To” and The Barmah Muster weekend has encouraged the Barmah Muster Dance Committee to keep on with the fight to keep the Barmah Forest for All & Forever.

When the challenge of helping fund the campaign to overturn the VEAC recommendations was presented to the Club they determined a plan of action. Knowing the values of their members and community meant they did not sit around wringing their hands wondering what to do. A raffle that ran for several months was organised which culminated in a cheque for $4266 being presented to Alliance secretary Max Rheese by Steve Malcolm from the Berrigan Sporties Angling Club just before Christmas 2008.

Well done Berrigan Angling Club and the local community!
